Balochistan CM Urges Collective Action for Greener Future

Quetta: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti underscored that protecting the environment is vital for human survival, economic growth, and the secure future of coming generations. He stressed that climate change, water scarcity, and increasing pressure on natural resources demand collective action.

Balochistan's Environmental Challenges

The Chief Minister noted that the theme of World Environment Day holds particular significance for Balochistan, a province severely impacted by drought and environmental challenges. He highlighted that the effects of climate change are clearly visible in the region, making the promotion of eco-friendly policies an urgent necessity.

Protecting Natural Assets

Sarfraz Bugti described the Juniper forests of Ziarat, national parks, and rare wildlife as the province's valuable natural assets. He emphasized that their protection is a shared responsibility to preserve identity and safeguard future generations. He warned that deforestation, illegal hunting, plastic pollution, and water scarcity pose serious threats to the ecosystem. Failure to address these challenges in time could adversely affect agriculture, the economy, and public health.

Green Balochistan Program

The Chief Minister added that under the Green Balochistan Program, tree plantation campaigns are being made more effective. Special projects are underway for the protection and restoration of Ziarat's globally renowned Juniper forests. The provincial government is also focusing on wildlife conservation, water projects, and dam construction to ensure sustainable development.

Plastic Ban and Public Participation

Sarfraz Bugti underscored that strict implementation of laws banning plastic bags and single-use plastics is being ensured to reduce pollution. He urged citizens to adopt an environment-friendly lifestyle, plant at least one tree per household, and take responsibility for its care. He stressed that water is Balochistan's most precious national asset, and preventing its wastage is a collective duty.

The provincial government, he said, is utilizing all resources to establish a green, clean, and eco-friendly Balochistan.
