Agriculture, Renewable Energy Key for Climate Resilient Growth: FPCCI
Agriculture, Renewable Energy Key for Climate Resilient Growth

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has underscored the immense potential of agriculture and renewable energy sectors in driving climate-resilient economic growth. Speaking at a conference, the FPCCI convener emphasized that these sectors hold the key to sustainable development and reducing the country's vulnerability to climate change.

Agriculture Sector Opportunities

Pakistan's agriculture sector, which employs nearly 40% of the labor force, can be transformed through modern techniques, efficient water usage, and climate-smart practices. The convener noted that investments in high-yield crops, drip irrigation, and renewable energy-powered farming equipment can boost productivity while minimizing environmental impact.

Renewable Energy Potential

With abundant solar, wind, and hydropower resources, Pakistan has the capacity to generate over 100,000 MW of clean energy. The FPCCI convener called for policy incentives to attract private investment in renewable projects, which can reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels and create green jobs.

Climate Resilience and Economic Growth

Integrating renewable energy into agriculture can lower operational costs and enhance resilience to climate shocks. The FPCCI convener stressed that public-private partnerships are crucial for scaling up these initiatives, which align with Pakistan's Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement.

Experts at the conference agreed that a transition to a green economy could unlock billions of dollars in investment and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The FPCCI has pledged to work with the government to develop a roadmap for climate-resilient growth, focusing on capacity building and technology transfer.
