Bio-Cards: Eco-Friendly Pest Control for Farmers

MUZAFFARGARH - The use of bio-cards presents an effective and environmentally friendly solution for controlling harmful crop pests, significantly reducing the reliance on chemical pesticides. This approach helps lower production costs, safeguards the environment, and preserves beneficial insect populations. These views were expressed by Deputy Director Agriculture (Extension) Tahir Mahmood Bhatti, Assistant Director Agriculture Mian Afzal Qureshi, and Senior Agriculture Officer Shabnam Fareed during a training session for farmers. The training was conducted at the installation of bio-cards in an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) demonstration cotton plot in Mouza Rakh Khanpur.

Promotion of Modern Agricultural Technologies

Addressing the farmers, agriculture officials stated that the agriculture department is actively promoting modern and eco-friendly agricultural technologies. They encouraged growers to take advantage of the various parasitoids and beneficial insects available at the Biological Control Laboratory in Muzaffargarh and utilize them in their fields to ensure natural control of harmful pests.

Benefits of Biological Pest Management

The officials emphasized that biological pest management methods not only reduce dependence on chemical pesticides but also contribute to sustainable agriculture by maintaining ecological balance and protecting useful insect populations. Deputy Director Agriculture (Extension) Tahir Mahmood Bhatti further stated that the Biological Control Laboratory in Muzaffargarh is supplying farmers with a range of bio-control agents and bio-cards. The use of these biological tools can effectively reduce pest infestations in cotton and other crops, leading to improved yields and enhanced agricultural productivity.
