Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad, Abdul Samad Nizamani, chaired a review meeting on Thursday at Darbar Hall to assess preparedness for the 2026 monsoon season, with a particular focus on anticipated rainfall, drainage arrangements, and emergency response measures.
Directions for Pre-Monsoon Preparations
Addressing the meeting, DC Abdul Samad Nizamani directed all concerned departments to ensure cleaning of sewerage channels, drainage disposal systems, and all storm-water drains before the onset of monsoon. He emphasized that all precautionary measures and emergency arrangements should be completed in advance to effectively deal with any unforeseen situation during the rainy season.
Focus on Low-Lying Areas and Essential Services
The DC stressed the importance of immediate drainage of rainwater from low-lying areas, keeping the drainage system fully functional, maintaining dewatering machinery in a state of readiness, strengthening rescue and relief operations, ensuring the availability of medical facilities, ambulance services, essential medicines, and the uninterrupted provision of electricity and other basic public services.
Departmental Briefings and Coordination
During the meeting, officers from Municipal and Town Committees, Local Government, Public Health Engineering, LBOD, and other relevant departments briefed the participants on their preparedness, available resources, and contingency planning. DC instructed all concerned departments to work in close coordination and maintain effective communication to ensure timely relief to the public and to respond efficiently to any emergency arising from monsoon rains.
