Deputy Commissioner (DC) Vehari, Khalid Javed Goraiya, presided over a meeting on Monday to assess the progress of installing safety nets on manholes across the district. The initiative, part of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's directive, aims to prevent accidents and safeguard citizens' lives and property.
Expedite Installation Process
Khalid Javed directed the concerned institutions to further accelerate the installation of safety nets on manholes. He emphasized that all relevant departments must identify manholes and install safety nets and covers in a timely manner. The DC also instructed officials to contact private housing societies to ensure safety covers and nets are installed on existing manholes within their jurisdictions.
Priority for High-Traffic Areas
The DC specifically ordered that safety measures be completed on a priority basis in areas with high public traffic. This includes busy roads, markets, and pedestrian zones where the risk of accidents is greater.

The meeting was attended by Additional DC General Ghulam Murtaza, Additional DC Finance and Planning Muhammad Afzal, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Vehari Anam Akram, Chief Officer District Council and Municipality Sajid Mahmood, and Managing Director WASA Chaudhry Ikramullah. AC Burewala Jawad Hussain and AC Mailsi Saad Bin Khalid participated via video link.
