EPA Rawalpindi Marks Plastic Bag Free Day at Mall

The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Rawalpindi observed International Plastic Bag Free Day on Friday at Madison Square Mall in Saddar, which has been designated a Plastic-Free Zone. Dr. Sadia Batook, Deputy Director of EPA Rawalpindi, informed The Nation that the event focused on public engagement through a plastic bag deposit booth, where visitors could exchange banned plastic bags for reusable cloth bags.

Environment Champion Recognition

Individuals who arrived with eco-friendly bags were awarded 'Environment Champion' badges to encourage sustainable habits. The initiative aimed to reward positive behavior and raise awareness about the dangers of single-use plastics.

Awareness Walk and Pamphlet Distribution

An awareness walk was conducted, and pamphlets were distributed to highlight the harmful effects of plastic bags on the environment. The event underscored that plastic bags can take up to 1,000 years to decompose, pollute oceans, and harm wildlife.
