French Climber Body Recovered After K-6 Avalanche in GB

The body of French mountaineer Pierre Guillaume has been recovered following a rescue operation after he lost his life in an avalanche on K-6 peak in Gilgit-Baltistan's Ghanche district. According to sources, the 40-year-old climber was part of a three-member international expedition attempting to summit the 7,282-metre-high K-6 peak when he was caught in an avalanche during the ascent.

Rescue Operation Details

A team of local climbers successfully carried out the recovery operation and transported the body to a secure location. The rescue effort was led by Ghulam Abbas, Sajjad Hussain, Ismail Kaseer, and Idris Jamali, who worked in challenging mountain conditions to retrieve the deceased mountaineer. The rescue team also prepared a temporary helipad to facilitate the evacuation process.

Authorities are planning to transport the body to Skardu by helicopter, subject to favourable weather conditions. Sources confirmed that the remaining members of the expedition, along with local guides and support staff, are safe and currently stationed at the secure location established during the rescue operation.

The incident has highlighted the risks associated with high-altitude mountaineering in the Karakoram region, where climbers often face unpredictable weather conditions and avalanche hazards while attempting some of the world's most challenging peaks. K-6, also known as Baltistan Peak, is one of the prominent peaks in the region, standing at 7,282 metres above sea level.
