A domestic worker accused of stealing 20 tola gold jewellery from a house in Karachi has been arrested, police said on Wednesday.
Incident Details
According to police, the housemaid, identified as Asifa, allegedly stole the gold on June 12 from a residence in the Risala area. Following the incident, a case was registered at Risala Police Station, after which police launched an intelligence-based operation and apprehended the suspect.
Recovery and Investigation
Officials said 6 tolas of the stolen gold were recovered from her possession during the arrest. Investigators further revealed that the suspect had already sold part of the jewellery, including one set worth Rs2.15 million to a jeweller in Hub, while additional gold worth Rs200,000 was also sold to another jeweller in the same area.
Police added that the accused used the proceeds to purchase a house in Moach Goth, while some of the remaining jewellery was allegedly deposited with a jeweller for safekeeping.
Similar Incidents
Earlier this year, similar incidents were reported in Karachi, where more than 115 tola gold was stolen from two separate households in Mohammad Ali Society and Bahadurabad, allegedly involving domestic workers.
