The Karachi Basketball Association (KBBA) has unveiled a comprehensive three-month calendar of basketball events alongside the introduction of the Hakeem Ali Zardari Excellence Awards, which will recognize outstanding contributions to the sport in the region. KBBA President Ghulam Abbas Jamal Ch announced that Shahida Parveen Kiani, Khalid Jameel Shamsi, International referee Zafar Iqbal Ch, Tariq Hussain, Talha Amjad, and Nusrat Afzal will be honored for their services to basketball.
Committee Formed to Oversee Arrangements
A committee has been formed under the supervision of KBBA patron Ghulam Muhammad Khan to oversee arrangements for the awards and events. The committee includes Azmatullah Khan (NBP), Malik Nasir (FIA), M Tufail (Police), Zulfiqar Abbas Khan (UBL), and Dilawar Abbas Khan (Edu Department). This committee will ensure smooth execution of the planned activities.
Three-Month Competition Schedule
The association outlined its upcoming three-month schedule of competitions, beginning with the Inter-Academy Tournament from July 29 to 31. This will be followed by the Independence Day Girls and Boys Tournament from August 14 to 16. Further events include the third Hakeem M Saeed Shaheed Girls and Boys Tournament from September 6 to 10, and the Quaid-e-Azam Memorial Girls and Boys matches on September 11.
Haji M Ashraf Yahiya will serve as in-charge for boys’ events, while Zaeema Khatoon will oversee girls’ competitions. The KBBA said the initiative aims to promote grassroots basketball development and encourage wider participation across youth and community levels in Karachi.
Appeal for Prayers
Meanwhile, Ghulam Abbas appealed to the sports community to pray for the early recovery of KBBA Secretary Zahid Malik, who is currently unwell. The association expressed hope for his swift return to health.
