The Khangarh Bypass and main road have deteriorated to the point of resembling ruins, with deep potholes posing constant accident risks. Citizens attribute the crisis to criminal negligence by the district administration, which has led to increased accidents causing loss of life and financial damage.
Recent Accidents and Power Outages
Just yesterday, a truck lost control and crashed into an electricity pole near the girls college. The collision damaged a transformer and snapped power lines, resulting in a citywide power outage that lasted all day and severely affected local businesses. A few days earlier, another truck at Stadium Chowk struck an electricity pole while trying to avoid a pothole, causing power lines to break and leaving the area without electricity for 24 hours. This morning, a trailer overturned at the same Stadium Chowk while maneuvering around potholes. No casualties were reported, but the incident caused widespread alarm.
Heavy Traffic Avoids Bypass
Heavy traffic vehicles are reportedly avoiding the bypass due to deep potholes and the risk of vehicle damage. Citizens express anger over the administration's irresponsible attitude, which they say has put the entire city at risk. Despite the approaching month of Muharram, roads have not been properly repaired, with only temporary patchwork carried out.
Demand for Immediate Action
Residents have urged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to order complete reconstruction and repair of the bypass and main roads. They also demand restricting heavy traffic entry during Muharram to prevent any major disaster. The call comes as AC Vehari reviews arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram.
