The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, following the vision and directives of Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, conducted a post-budget seminar for Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) at the Old Jirga Hall in Peshawar. The event was jointly organised with the Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS) and the Centre for Peace and Development Initiative (CPDI). Its primary goal was to build the capacity of lawmakers in budget formulation, public financial management, development planning, investment, budget analysis, and effective parliamentary oversight.
Expert Sessions and Workshop
During the seminar, experts delivered detailed presentations on Pakistan’s budget-making process, the public financial management system, resource allocation, development priorities, and the role of legislators in budget scrutiny and oversight. Participants also took part in practical workshop sessions designed to improve their understanding of budget documents and their effective use.
Active Participation and Engagement
MPAs actively participated and showed keen interest throughout the proceedings. They interacted with experts through discussions, raised questions on technical aspects of the budget, and exchanged views on strengthening parliamentary oversight of public finances. Participants described the training as highly beneficial for enhancing their ability to perform legislative and oversight duties in the public interest.
