The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority conducted sweeping inspections across multiple districts, seizing and destroying large quantities of adulterated milk, substandard beverages, contaminated meat, and other unsafe food products. Enforcement teams carried out coordinated operations in Mardan, Peshawar, Swat, Abbottabad, Bannu, and Malakand, taking legal action against businesses violating food safety regulations.
Mardan and Peshawar Operations
In Mardan, inspectors destroyed 200 litres of adulterated milk after laboratory tests confirmed contamination. Fines were imposed on the violators, and several food outlets received improvement notices. In Peshawar, officials arrested an alleged ringleader of a network involved in producing substandard beverages and seized approximately 300 litres of unsafe drinks. Legal proceedings have been initiated under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority Act.
Swat and Abbottabad Inspections
In Swat, inspections at the Lindakay Check Post led to the destruction of 500 litres of substandard milk after samples from milk tankers failed laboratory tests. Food Safety teams in Abbottabad intercepted vehicles entering the city and destroyed 600 litres of adulterated milk and 150 kilograms of diseased chicken declared unfit for human consumption.
Bannu and Malakand Actions
In Bannu, officials, assisted by the district administration and the Livestock Department, detected adulterated milk in a tanker entering the district. Around 500 litres were destroyed, and legal action was initiated against those responsible. Acting on intelligence, Food Safety officials in Malakand intercepted a vehicle at the Sakhakot Check Post and seized 200 kilograms of substandard meat along with unsafe ice cream. The products were destroyed on the spot, and those responsible were fined.
Government Commitment to Food Safety
Commenting on the operations, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Food Dr Muhammad Israr Khan said the provincial government would continue enforcing food safety laws and take action against individuals involved in the production and sale of adulterated and unsafe food products. The crackdown underscores the authority's zero-tolerance policy towards food adulteration and its commitment to public health.
