Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Labour Faisal Khan Tarakai met a delegation from the International Labour Organization (ILO) on Wednesday to discuss measures aimed at strengthening workers’ welfare, expanding social protection and advancing labour reforms in the province.
Meeting Focus on Decent Employment and Institutional Capacity
The meeting focused on promoting safe and decent employment opportunities, enhancing the institutional capacity of the Labour Department and improving social security mechanisms for workers. The minister reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights, upgrading social security services and implementing labour reforms in line with international standards.
He said all available resources were being mobilised to provide the working class with better healthcare, stronger social protection and effective legal assistance. Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration and expand technical cooperation across various sectors of the Labour Department.
Training Workshop for ESSI Doctors Scheduled
As part of the initiative, a specialised training workshop for doctors of the Employees’ Social Security Institution (ESSI) will be held on July 8 to strengthen their professional skills and introduce them to modern healthcare practices. The workshop is expected to enhance the quality of medical services delivered under the province’s social security system and improve healthcare support available to registered workers.
ILO Commends KP Government’s Efforts
The ILO delegation commended the provincial government’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare and reaffirmed its commitment to continued cooperation in support of labour rights, social protection and institutional development.
