Deputy Commissioner Muzaffargarh, Hafiz Usman Tahir Jappa, conducted an inspection of a comprehensive pre-flood mock exercise held on the banks of the River Chenab. The drill aimed to evaluate and enhance the readiness of all relevant departments for potential flood emergencies.
Exercise Attendance and Participating Departments
The exercise was attended by District Emergency Officer Engineer Muhammad Ubaidullah Khan, along with officials from the Irrigation Department, Rescue 1122, Police, Health Department, Agriculture Department, MEPCO, Sui Northern Gas, Local Government, PDMA, and Livestock Department, among other concerned agencies.
Objectives and Scenarios Covered
District Emergency Officer Engineer Muhammad Ubaidullah Khan briefed the Deputy Commissioner on the various stages of the exercise. He explained that the objective was to evaluate inter-departmental coordination, rapid emergency response, evacuation procedures, search and rescue operations, first aid, relocation of affected persons to safer locations, establishment of relief camps, and the provision of food, clean drinking water, medical assistance, and other essential relief services.
Demonstrations by Rescue and Health Departments
During the exercise, Rescue 1122 divers and rescue teams demonstrated water rescue operations using boats, evacuation of simulated flood victims, rescue of drowning persons, administration of first aid, and transportation of injured individuals to hospitals. The Health Department showcased its emergency medical response capabilities, while the Livestock Department, led by Dr. Abdul Basit, demonstrated measures for animal protection and emergency support. Other participating departments also exhibited their preparedness, equipment, and operational resources.
Inspection of Equipment and Directives
The Deputy Commissioner visited departmental camps and exhibition stalls, inspected rescue equipment, machinery, boats, life jackets, and other emergency resources, and reviewed the preparedness of each department. He directed all relevant agencies to remain on high alert throughout the monsoon season, ensure full implementation of the district flood management plan, continuously monitor vulnerable locations, and further strengthen inter-agency coordination to safeguard lives and property.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Hafiz Usman Tahir Jappa said that, under the special directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the district administration is finalizing comprehensive pre-flood arrangements. He emphasized that all departments have been equipped with modern resources, trained personnel, and coordinated response mechanisms to ensure timely, efficient, and effective rescue and relief operations in the event of any emergency. He appreciated the performance and professionalism of all participating departments, reaffirming that the protection of public life and property remains the district administration’s highest priority and that every available resource will be utilized to achieve this objective.
