KARACHI: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) opened its fifth mega centre in Surjani Town on Monday, designed to provide round-the-clock identity-related services to residents on the city's outskirts. Sindh Governor Nihal Hashmi formally inaugurated the facility, joined by NADRA Karachi Region Director General Aamir Ali Khan and other officials.
24/7 Operations and Capacity
The new centre operates 24 hours a day, offering uninterrupted services. Officials said it can serve up to 2,500 people daily across three shifts, with 20 one-window counters to streamline processing. A waiting area with seating for 200 individuals has also been built.
Special Facilities for Vulnerable Groups
Special arrangements have been made for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, including four tablets equipped with fingerprint and iris recognition systems. Additionally, a thalassemia desk provides free diagnostic support.
Expected Impact
Authorities said the centre is expected to benefit nearly four million residents of Surjani Town and adjoining areas. Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Hashmi stated that NADRA is expanding its reach by bringing services closer to citizens through modern technology. He called the thalassemia desk a "significant step" in public service delivery.
Addressing Previous Congestion
NADRA DG Aamir Ali Khan noted that the previous facility in the area had only three counters, often leading to congestion and forcing residents to travel to the Five Star Chowrangi mega centre. He said the new facility would ease that burden and improve service delivery.
