District Police Officer (DPO) Okara Dr Assad Ejaz Malhi announced that Okara Police achieved a significant reduction in crime during the first six months of 2026 compared to the corresponding period last year, owing to an effective policing strategy, intelligence-based operations, strict legal action, and strong public cooperation. He expressed these views while addressing a press conference, with SP Investigation Malik Daud also present.
Heinous Crime Down by 56%
Dr Malhi stated that overall heinous crime declined by 56 percent across the district. Murder cases dropped from 43 during the corresponding period last year to 36 this year, reflecting a 20 percent reduction. Similarly, cases of attempted murder decreased by 58 percent, robbery and dacoity by 59 percent, vehicle snatching by 64 percent, motorcycle theft by 49.6 percent, and burglary by 48 percent.
Arrests and Gang Dismantlement
Sharing details of operations against criminal elements, the DPO said that Okara Police arrested 2,041 proclaimed offenders, 395 court absconders, and 498 targeted offenders during the period under review. He further informed that police dismantled 70 notorious criminal gangs and arrested 195 gang members. Stolen property worth Rs. 63.4 million was recovered from their possession and returned to its rightful owners.
Anti-Narcotics and Weapons Recoveries
Highlighting the anti-narcotics campaign, Dr Malhi said that police seized 197 kilograms of hashish, 8.32 kilograms of crystal meth (Ice), 2.8 kilograms of opium, 1.1 kilograms of heroin, and 11,271 litres of illicit liquor. He added that significant recoveries of illegal weapons were also made during various operations.
Commitment to Law and Order
The DPO reiterated that Okara Police remains fully committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens, eliminating crime, and ensuring the rule of law. He said that indiscriminate action against criminals would continue with the same determination and professionalism to make the district safer and more peaceful. Responding to a question, Dr Malhi said the Police Department strictly follows the principles of accountability and merit. While disciplinary action is taken against officers found guilty of misconduct, outstanding performers are recognised and encouraged through cash rewards and commendation certificates.
