Punjab to Launch Electric Bike Rental in Lahore

The Punjab government has decided to introduce an electric bike rental service in Lahore as part of its efforts to promote environmentally sustainable and modern urban transport. According to officials, the project will be launched in phases, with 10,000 electric bikes to be deployed initially. To facilitate the service, around 300 docking and charging stations will be established across the city. The Punjab Housing Authority (PHA) will provide land for the stations, which are aimed at improving connectivity between major residential and commercial areas and nearby public transport hubs.

Environmental Impact and Collaboration

Officials stated that the initiative is expected to help reduce carbon emissions by thousands of tonnes annually, contributing to efforts to address air pollution and smog in the provincial capital. The project will be implemented in collaboration with the Lahore Parking Company (LePark), the Transport Department, Safe City Authority, and other relevant institutions. It is expected to provide students, office workers, and other commuters with an affordable and modern transport alternative.

How the Service Will Work

Under the scheme, citizens will be able to rent electric bikes through a mobile application, enabling easy access for daily travel. This system aims to offer a convenient and cost-effective solution for short-distance commuting within the city.
