ITP Launches Crackdown on Illegal and Double Parking in I-8 Markaz
Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have initiated a strict crackdown against illegal and double parking in the I-8 Markaz area. The operation aims to address traffic congestion and ensure compliance with parking regulations. According to a spokesperson for ITP, the enforcement drive was launched following numerous complaints from residents and commuters about vehicles obstructing roads and causing delays.
Details of the Enforcement Drive
The crackdown involves issuing challans (fines) to violators and towing away vehicles parked in no-parking zones or those engaging in double parking. ITP has deployed additional personnel and tow trucks to the area to ensure effective enforcement. In the first phase, over 50 vehicles were fined and 10 were towed away. The spokesperson emphasized that the operation will continue until parking discipline is fully restored.
Impact on Traffic and Commuters
The illegal parking has been a persistent problem in I-8 Markaz, a busy commercial hub. Double parking often narrows roads, leading to traffic jams and inconvenience for pedestrians and drivers. Commuters have welcomed the crackdown, with many expressing relief that authorities are taking action. However, some shopkeepers have raised concerns about the impact on customer access. ITP has advised the public to use designated parking areas and follow traffic rules to avoid penalties.
Future Measures and Public Cooperation
ITP plans to install additional signage and markings to clearly indicate parking zones. The spokesperson urged citizens to cooperate by parking only in authorized spaces and avoiding double parking. Regular monitoring and surprise checks will be conducted to sustain the improvements. ITP also encouraged the public to report violations via their helpline.
