New Passport Design Revealed
President Donald Trump on Friday released a rendering of a new limited-edition United States passport to commemorate the nation's 250th anniversary of independence. The design prominently features Trump's stern-faced likeness, marking the first time a sitting US president has been depicted on American travel documents.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump shared the passport mock-up with the caption: "The USA's new passport, which says, 'Welcome, but be good!'" The image shows a glowering Trump leaning on his desk, with his signature and the text of the Declaration of Independence in the background.
Design Details and Origin
The portrait appears to be based on a photograph taken by White House photographer Daniel Torok. The opposite page of the passport features a painting depicting the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, along with the words "United States of America 250." The White House also posted the same rendering, referring to it as a "Patriot passport."
The State Department, which had previously announced that a commemorative passport with "custom artwork" would be available starting July 6, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In April, a department official stated that the Trump-themed passports would only be available through in-person appointments in Washington "for as long as there is availability."
Trump's Stamp on Government Institutions
Trump has aggressively placed his personal mark on government institutions. Banners bearing the president's image now fly outside several government buildings. The Treasury Department has announced that Trump's signature will soon appear on the one-dollar bill. Additionally, Trump added his name to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, though a court later ruled that it must be removed.
The new passport is part of a series of efforts by the Trump administration to commemorate the 250th anniversary, with the design reflecting the president's desire to leave a lasting imprint on national symbols.
