MCCI Acting President Urges Long-Term Business Measures in Budget 2026-27

Acting President of the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Azhar Baloch, has called upon the federal government to introduce more effective and sustainable measures in the federal budget for the fiscal year 2026-27. He emphasized that these measures should be designed to promote industry, trade, exports, and investment across the country.

In a formal statement, Baloch acknowledged the government's efforts to maintain fiscal discipline and boost revenue collection despite challenging economic conditions. However, he stressed that the business community expects stronger incentives for economic growth and private-sector development. He noted that the current economic environment requires a more proactive approach to stimulate business activity.

Baloch revealed that the MCCI had already submitted a comprehensive set of budget proposals to the government after extensive consultations with various sectors. He urged that the concerns of traders and industrialists should be fully taken into account while finalizing the budget. The acting president highlighted several key areas requiring immediate attention.

Key Demands for Economic Growth

Baloch emphasized the urgent need to reduce the cost of doing business in Pakistan. He called for stability in energy tariffs, which he described as a critical factor for industrial competitiveness. He also stressed the importance of creating a more conducive environment for industrial growth.

According to Baloch, sustainable economic growth depends on policy continuity, investor confidence, and a business-friendly climate. He argued that frequent policy changes undermine investor trust and hinder long-term planning. The MCCI acting president also called for a simpler, more transparent, and uniform tax system.

Tax Reform and Documented Economy

He pointed out that expanding the tax net should not place an additional burden solely on existing taxpayers. Instead, undocumented sectors of the economy must be brought into the tax framework. This approach, he said, would ensure fairness and broaden the revenue base without penalizing compliant businesses.

Baloch highlighted the importance of boosting exports, increasing industrial production, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He stressed that creating investment opportunities is essential to strengthen the national economy. He also noted that the glass industry is currently operating at only 50 percent of its total capacity, indicating significant room for growth.

Call for Public-Private Consultation

Baloch reaffirmed that close consultation between the government and the private sector must continue to address the challenges facing the business community. He said the MCCI remains committed to conveying the concerns of businesses to policymakers and supporting efforts aimed at economic stability, industrial growth, and job creation.

He concluded by reiterating that the private sector is a key driver of economic development and that its input is vital for crafting effective policies. The MCCI will continue to advocate for a business-friendly environment that fosters investment and innovation.
