The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), in collaboration with police, dismantled a major illegal water supply network in New Karachi on Tuesday. The joint operation targeted an unauthorized system in Sector 5/G that had been siphoning water meant for local residents.
Operation Details and Seizures
Acting on directives from KWSC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, law enforcement personnel conducted a raid that led to the recovery of eight electric motors, five submersible pumps, plastic piping, welding plates, and other equipment used in the theft. The seized items were reportedly part of a sophisticated setup that illegally diverted water from the municipal supply.
Impact on Residents
The illegal network had been depriving legitimate consumers of their water allocation, exacerbating shortages in the area. KWSC officials stated that the operation aims to curb water theft and ensure equitable distribution. The seized equipment will be used as evidence in legal proceedings against those involved.
According to a KWSC spokesperson, similar operations are planned across the city to crack down on unauthorized connections and theft. The crackdown is part of broader efforts to improve water management and reduce losses in the system.
