A delegation of officers from various government organizations, currently enrolled in the Project Management Certificate Program at the National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, visited the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Operational Control Room of the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO). The visit aimed to familiarize participants with modern power distribution technologies.
Comprehensive Briefing on AMI Project
On the occasion, Project Director AMI, Mohsin Raza Gilani, Deputy Director Advanced Metering Infrastructure, Imran, along with other IESCO officers, provided the delegation with a detailed briefing on the objectives of the AMI Project. They explained the latest smart metering system, its operational framework, and the project's significance in modernizing the power distribution system. The delegation learned that the AMI Project is a major technology-driven initiative enabling real-time monitoring of electricity consumption, remote meter reading, reduction of line losses, prevention of electricity theft, greater transparency in billing, and improved customer service delivery.
Practical Demonstration of Smart Metering
The visiting officers toured various sections of the AMI Operational Centre, where they observed the practical functioning of the smart metering system, data monitoring mechanisms, and control room operations. They appreciated IESCO’s effective use of modern technology and its digital transformation initiatives in the power distribution sector, describing the project as a model worthy of emulation by other public sector organizations.
Interactive Session and Exchange of Shields
At the conclusion of the visit, an interactive question-and-answer session was held, during which participants received detailed information on various technical and administrative aspects of the AMI Project. The visit concluded with an exchange of commemorative shields between IESCO and the National Defence University delegation. Representatives of both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening mutual cooperation, promoting the exchange of knowledge and professional experience, and enhancing institutional collaboration in the future.
