The government of Pakistan has increased the notified prices of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by up to 16.17 percent, according to a notification issued on Saturday. The revised rates apply to consumers supplied through both the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) networks.
Revised LNG Prices for SSGC and SNGPL
Under the new pricing mechanism, the LNG price for consumers connected to the SSGC system has been raised by $2.59 per MMBtu, bringing the notified rate to $18.64 per MMBtu. For the SNGPL network, the price has increased by $2.54 per MMBtu, setting the new rate at $19.52 per MMBtu. These adjustments represent an increase of more than $2.5 per MMBtu for both gas distribution companies.
Impact on Consumers and Economy
The price hike is one of the recent adjustments to notified LNG prices, reflecting ongoing changes in the energy sector. The formal notification implements the new rates, which are expected to affect households, industries, and commercial entities relying on LNG. The move is likely to influence inflation and production costs across various sectors, as LNG is a key input for power generation and industrial processes.
According to the notification, the revised prices are effective immediately, and consumers will see the changes in their upcoming bills. The Petroleum Division has not issued any statement regarding further adjustments or subsidies to mitigate the impact on end-users.
