Pakistan Unveils Simplified Electricity Bills for Consumers

Electricity consumers across Pakistan will now receive bills in a redesigned and simplified format aimed at improving readability and ease of understanding. According to details, power distribution companies (DISCOs) have introduced the new format following directives from the Ministry of Energy, Power Division. The revised layout has been designed to make billing information more transparent and user-friendly.

Key Features of the New Bill Format

Under the new system, consumers will be able to clearly view key details such as electricity consumption, total payable amount, due date, and payment history in a more prominent and structured manner compared to the previous format. Officials said the redesign was introduced in response to repeated complaints from consumers who found the earlier bills overly complex due to technical terminology, dense information, and an unclear layout. The updated bills prioritize simplicity and transparency, ensuring that essential information can be accessed at a glance without confusion.

QR Code Integration and Security Warnings

As part of the modernisation effort, a QR code has also been added to electricity bills to facilitate quick access to payment options and related online services. However, authorities have also issued warnings regarding QR code misuse, stating that cybercriminals may attempt to exploit consumers by using fraudulent codes under the guise of subsidy schemes. Consumers have been advised to verify authenticity before scanning any code on their bills.
