Petroleum Imports Up 2.23% in 11 Months of FY 2025-26

Pakistan's overall petroleum group imports increased by 2.23 percent during the first eleven months (July-May) of the current fiscal year 2025-26 compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The total imports stood at $14,953.227 million, up from $14,631.808 million in July-May 2024-25.

Key Commodities Driving the Increase

The import of petroleum products rose by 2.86 percent, from $5,456.150 million last year to $5,612.274 million in the period under review. Similarly, crude petroleum imports surged by 27.29 percent, reaching $6,340.733 million compared to $4,981.299 million in the corresponding months of the previous fiscal year. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) imports saw a marginal increase of 0.10 percent, totaling $983.698 million versus $982.753 million in 2024-25.

Decline in LNG and Other Products

In contrast, imports of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) decreased significantly by 37.21 percent, dropping from $3,211.257 million to $2,016.240 million. Imports of all other petroleum group products also fell by 19.19 percent, recorded at $0.282 million compared to $0.349 million in the previous year.

Monthly Comparison for May 2026

On a year-on-year basis, petroleum group imports in May 2026 increased by 7.84 percent, reaching $1,435.930 million compared to $1,331.592 million in May 2025, as per PBS data.
