Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed the authorities concerned to expedite work on the 100 Megawatt Solar Power Project in Gilgit-Baltistan and ensure its completion at the earliest.
Review Meeting on Solar Project
Addressing a review meeting on the 100 Megawatt Solar Power Project for Gilgit-Baltistan, he said the Federal government would bear all expenses of the 100 MW Solar Power Supply project for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Prime Minister further directed impartial third-party validation to ensure transparency in all phases of the project. The relevant authorities briefed the meeting about the federal government’s solar project in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Government Buildings Solarization
It was briefed that the government has planned to install an eighteen Megawatt solar power project for government buildings in Gilgit-Baltistan. The meeting was briefed that the eighteen Megawatt solar power project for government buildings in Gilgit and Diamer Divisions will be completed by December this year, while the solarization of government buildings in Baltistan Division will be completed by October this year.
Household Solarization
The meeting was apprised that work on an eighty-two Megawatt solarization project for households is underway in Gilgit, Skardu, Chilas, and Khaplu.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Power Sardar Owais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam, and relevant senior government officials.
