RAWALPINDI: Authorities have issued a stern warning of strict action against furniture shops, factories, warehouses, and other high-risk commercial units as a severe heatwave is expected to hit the city for the next 15 days.
Heatwave Forecast
According to the Meteorological Department, intense sunshine and a strong heatwave are anticipated across the region over the next two weeks. The extreme weather conditions pose significant risks, particularly for businesses handling flammable materials.
Directives for High-Risk Units
In response to the impending heatwave, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Civil Defence authorities have issued directives requiring immediate installation of modern fire-fighting equipment. The order specifically targets:
- Furniture shops
- Plastic and chemical factories
- Paper and cardboard warehouses
- Shoe and garment units
- Chemical-related businesses handling acids, ammonia, and hazardous gases
These businesses are mandated to equip their premises with up-to-date fire safety systems to mitigate the heightened risk of fires during the heatwave. Authorities have warned that non-compliance will result in strict legal action, including possible closure of operations.
The move aims to prevent potential disasters as temperatures are expected to soar, increasing the likelihood of fire incidents in establishments with combustible materials. Business owners are urged to adhere to the safety regulations promptly to ensure the safety of both employees and the public.
