The Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad, Zain-ul-Abedin Memon, has taken decisive action to stabilize flour prices following a surge in wheat costs in the open market. In a meeting held at the DC’s Office, officials from the District Food Control, Bureau of Supply & Prices, Flour Mills Association, Atta Chakki Association, Kiryana Merchants Association, and supermarket representatives gathered to address the issue.
Wheat and Flour Price Surge
According to a handout, the meeting was informed that a 100 kg bag of wheat was being sold in the open market for between Rs 11,500 and Rs 11,800. This increase had driven flour prices up to Rs 150 per kilogram in some areas, causing concern among consumers. To provide relief and ensure uniform pricing, revised rates were finalized through mutual consultation.
The new rates were set unanimously: flour supplied by mills will be sold at a wholesale price of Rs 127 per kilogram and a retail price of Rs 130 per kilogram. For atta chakkis and retail shops, the wholesale price was fixed at Rs 145 per kilogram and the retail price at Rs 148 per kilogram.
Strict Enforcement and Public Appeal
DC Memon directed relevant departments to ensure strict implementation of the notified rates and to take indiscriminate action against overcharging, hoarding, and profiteering. He appealed to the public to report any shopkeeper charging above the official rates so that prompt legal action could be taken.
At the conclusion of the meeting, all associations and stakeholders assured the district administration of their full cooperation and agreed to strictly implement the officially notified flour prices.
