July’s intense heat and humidity have turned prolonged power outages into a humanitarian concern rather than a mere inconvenience in Kasur. For the past two days, many areas of the city have remained without electricity, leaving homes unbearably hot and causing suffering among children, elderly people, and patients. The outages are also disrupting students’ education and causing significant losses to businesses and daily wage earners.
Impact on Vulnerable Populations
According to resident M. Ahmad Muzakki, the extreme conditions are particularly harsh for the most vulnerable. Children, the elderly, and those with medical conditions are struggling in the heat without fans or air conditioning. The lack of power also affects healthcare facilities and the storage of medicines and vaccines.
Economic and Educational Disruption
Businesses in Kasur are facing losses as shops and industries shut down due to power cuts. Daily wage earners, who rely on consistent work, are losing income. Students are unable to study or attend online classes, further hindering their education. Muzakki emphasized that no country can progress when education, healthcare, and economic activity are repeatedly disrupted.
Call for Immediate Action
Muzakki urged the relevant authorities to restore a stable electricity supply in Kasur and implement lasting solutions to prevent such crises in the future. Reliable electricity is a basic necessity, particularly during the summer months, and the current situation demands urgent attention.
