Shalimar Express Coaches Derail Near Shahdadpur, No Casualties Reported
In a significant railway incident on Wednesday, four air-conditioned parlour coaches of the Karachi-to-Lahore Shalimar Express derailed near Shahdadpur railway station, causing major disruptions to train operations on both up and down tracks. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, thanks to the train's slow speed during the event.

Railway officials confirmed that coaches numbered 4, 5, 6, and 7 went off the track when the Shalimar Express was being diverted to a loop line. This diversion was necessary due to a faulty up Awami Express occupying the main track at the station. The Shalimar Express was moving at a very slow speed while entering the loop line, a factor that officials credited with preventing a major accident and saving passengers from injury.
However, the derailment resulted in considerable damage to the coaches and the railway track, leading to immediate operational challenges.
Impact on Train Operations and Passenger Hardships
Following the incident, rail traffic on both tracks was suspended, and several trains were halted at different stations along the route. Passengers remained stranded for hours, facing significant difficulties due to a lack of food and drinking water. Rescue and Clearance Efforts Initiated
Rescue and clearance operations began after a crane and relief train arrived from Kotri nearly four hours later. Railway staff worked diligently to remove the derailed coaches and restore the track to operational condition. Assistant Commissioner Shahdadpur Qamaruddin Rahoopoto, along with DSP Shahdadpur and the Station House Officer, reached the site with police personnel soon after the incident. Local residents, as well as social and political representatives, also gathered at the scene to monitor the situation.
