ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan held a meeting with a delegation from Alibaba.com to explore collaborative opportunities aimed at bolstering Pakistan's digital economy, driving industrial growth, and increasing the export capacity of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Focus on DigiSME Pakistan Initiative
The discussions centered around the implementation of the "DigiSME Pakistan" initiative in partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda). Broader topics included industrial development and expanding Pakistan's global online export footprint.
AI-Powered Solutions for SMEs
The Alibaba delegation showcased artificial intelligence (AI)-driven solutions designed to support Pakistani SMEs. These tools aim to improve operational efficiency and enable businesses to seize global market opportunities more effectively.
Haroon Akhtar Khan noted that recent memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed with Alibaba Group represent significant milestones for Pakistan's economic progress. He highlighted that Alibaba's services would help Pakistani SMEs seamlessly integrate into global markets through digital trade, thereby boosting exports and creating new economic prospects.
The PM aide directed Smeda to collaborate closely with Alibaba.com to ensure that micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) effectively leverage digital platforms and benefit from emerging opportunities in global e-commerce.
