The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has initiated a public awareness campaign concerning mobile SIMs that are registered on invalid, cancelled, or expired Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs). The authority has directed users to update their identification documents in a timely manner to avoid any disruption in mobile services.
Regulatory Directive on SIM Registration
According to the PTA, mobile numbers linked to inactive, cancelled, or expired CNICs issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) could face suspension or blocking under existing regulatory rules. The authority emphasized that only SIMs registered on valid and verifiable identity documents will remain active.
Steps for Users to Maintain Service
The PTA has advised mobile users to renew their national identity cards before the expiry date to ensure uninterrupted mobile service. Furthermore, the authority clarified that after renewing the CNIC, users must immediately update their information in the records of their respective mobile network operators to keep registration details accurate.
Users who fail to renew on time may face suspension of mobile service, as per the regulatory framework. The PTA's campaign aims to inform the public proactively and prevent service disruptions.
