Punjab School Education Department Implements Four-Day School Week
The Punjab School Education Department has officially announced a significant shift in the academic calendar, introducing a four-day school week across the entire province. This new policy declares Friday as a weekly holiday for all public and private educational institutions, marking a departure from the traditional five-day schedule.
Revised School Timings and Operational Details
According to a formal notification issued by the department, revised school timings will also come into effect alongside the shortened week. Under the new schedule, schools will operate from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM daily. For institutions that run double shifts, specific adjustments have been outlined to ensure smooth implementation.
Morning Shift: In double-shift schools, the morning session will conclude at 12:30 PM, allowing for a brief transition period.
Second Shift: The afternoon shift will commence at 1:00 PM and continue until 5:30 PM, maintaining instructional hours while accommodating the new weekly structure.
Objectives Behind the Educational Reforms
Officials from the Punjab School Education Department have clarified that these changes are designed to improve the overall efficiency of the education system. By reducing the number of school days and optimizing timings, the department aims to enhance the teaching and learning process, potentially leading to better student outcomes and teacher performance.
This strategic move is expected to streamline administrative operations and provide students and educators with additional time for rest and extracurricular activities, fostering a more balanced academic environment.
