Marcello Hernandez, the comedian and actor best known for his four-season tenure on Saturday Night Live, has landed the prestigious role of hosting the 2026 ESPY Awards. The announcement was made by ESPN, which produces the annual ceremony honoring outstanding athletic achievements and memorable moments in sports.
A Rising Star in Comedy and Entertainment
Hernandez joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2022 and quickly became a fan favorite for his impressions and original characters. His departure from the show earlier this year opened up new opportunities, including this high-profile gig. The 2026 ESPYs will mark his first major hosting assignment for a live awards show.
What to Expect at the 2026 ESPYs
The ESPY Awards, short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly, will take place in July 2026 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The event will feature tributes to top athletes, standout plays, and emotional stories from the world of sports. Hernandez's comedic timing and charisma are expected to bring a fresh energy to the ceremony.
ESPN executives expressed excitement about the choice, noting Hernandez's ability to connect with a broad audience. “Marcello’s unique blend of humor and charm makes him the perfect fit for the ESPYs,” said a network spokesperson. “We look forward to seeing him bring his signature style to the stage.”
Hernandez himself shared his enthusiasm in a statement: “I’m thrilled to host the ESPYs. Sports have always been a huge part of my life, and combining that with comedy is a dream come true. Get ready for a night of unforgettable moments.”
The 2026 ESPYs will also include the presentation of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award and the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance. Nominations for the top categories will be announced in the coming months.
