Catherine O'Hara will make a posthumous appearance in the upcoming Netflix documentary Marty, Life is Short, which delves into the life and career of comedian Martin Short. The film is scheduled to premiere on May 12 and features archival footage capturing key moments from Short's personal and professional journey.

A Longstanding Collaboration

O'Hara, best known for her role in Schitt's Creek, appears in previously recorded material included in the documentary. The two performers first met in the early 1970s during Toronto's improv scene and maintained a strong professional relationship over the decades.

In a clip from the trailer, O'Hara praises Short's improvisational abilities, stating, "I feel like he could improvise to eternity. Couldn't he?" Another segment shows an exchange where Short tells her, "I loved you in 'Home Alone!' You were wonderful!", prompting laughter.

Intimate and Unseen Footage

The documentary is described as incorporating "beautiful, intimate, never-before-seen" footage to explore Short's career and personal experiences, including themes of grief. In one segment, Short reflects on life events, saying, "In life, sometimes you hit a green light. And sometimes, for no reason, it's red."

The project also addresses recent personal loss in Short's life. His daughter, Katherine Hartley Short, passed away in February at the age of 42. The documentary examines the impact of such experiences as part of its narrative.

O'Hara's Passing

O'Hara died on January 30 at the age of 71. Her cause of death was recorded as a pulmonary embolism, with rectal cancer listed as an underlying condition. Marty, Life is Short is expected to present a retrospective of Short's work and relationships through archival material, including contributions from collaborators like O'Hara.
