Kata Hay, a singer who once competed on the popular television show 'The Voice', has been taken into custody on a serious vehicular homicide charge. The Goodlettsville Police Department in Tennessee confirmed her arrest on Wednesday.
Police Appeal Leads to Arrest in Oklahoma
The arrest followed a public appeal by the police, who had shared Hay's photograph on social media earlier in the week. Authorities asked for the public's help in locating her, stating they believed she was traveling towards Oklahoma with a white male and possibly towing a large camper.
Kata Hay, whose legal name is Kata Huddleston, was ultimately located in her home state of Oklahoma. A local sheriff's deputy arrested her in the early hours of Wednesday morning. In a follow-up statement, the police department thanked citizens for their tips, confirming that the information provided directly led to her capture.
Multiple Charges and a Troubled Past
According to reports from TMZ, the vehicular homicide warrant is connected to an incident that occurred on December 10. Hay faces additional charges from that same event, including leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage estimated at over $1,500 and allegedly driving with an open container of alcohol. She also reportedly has an open DUI case.
Court records reveal a previous conviction for Hay. In 2022, she was arrested and convicted for having sexual contact with a minor, a crime for which she served a six-month jail sentence.
From Reality TV to Courtroom
Kata Hay rose to brief fame on season 10 of NBC's 'The Voice'. Her blind audition performance of "Redneck Woman" impressed the judges, leading three coaches to turn their chairs. She successfully advanced to the top 20 contestants before being eliminated during the live playoff rounds.
Hay is now scheduled to appear before a district court judge in Oklahoma on Monday to sign a waiver of extradition. This legal step will allow authorities to transport her back to Davidson County, Tennessee, where she will face the charges against her.
