Kate Gosselin has publicly responded to allegations made by her estranged son, Collin Gosselin, after he challenged her to take a lie detector test ahead of his forthcoming memoir. The former reality TV star addressed the issue in the comments section of a TikTok video originally posted to update followers about her rescue dog, Koda, and a minor foot injury.
Collin's Allegations and Memoir
Collin, 22, recently appeared on the Strange McKnights YouTube channel, where he repeated allegations about his upbringing and invited his mother to take a lie detector test. His upcoming memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, is due to be released on October 13. During the interview, Collin alleged that his mother restrained him with zip ties and locked him in a basement during his childhood. He stated, "But I'm not going to talk much on that because I'm putting all this in a tell-all that I'm writing right now and we will be going into detail on every single thing." He also said, "I would like to invite my mom to do a lie detector test. And that would be one of the questions, mom, if you're listening to this, we would ask about the zip ties."
Kate's TikTok Response
In the TikTok comments, Kate responded to a follower who suggested she sue Collin for defamation if his claims were false. She wrote, "I can't bc I'm a public figure. Rules are different unfortunately. Or I def would!" When another commenter asked whether she would agree to a lie detector test, Kate replied simply, "Ha!" She also addressed why she believes legal action would be difficult, writing, "Malice is one of the hardest things to prove. I tried :(" In another comment, she added, "The rules are different for ppl in the public eye. I consulted a high power LA attorney (you've definitely heard of him) years ago when other ppl were putting crazy stuff out there and that's what he said. The courts don't honor it if you're in the public eye :("
Background on the Gosselin Family
The Gosselin family rose to fame on TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8, which documented the lives of Kate, Jon Gosselin, and their eight children before the couple divorced in 2009. Collin's memoir, set for release in October, promises to detail his experiences growing up in the spotlight.
