Perrie Edwards has said she “can’t keep quiet” anymore as she opened up about her feelings towards former Little Mix bandmate Jesy Nelson, revealing that a long-discussed reunion or reconciliation is now unlikely. Speaking on Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast, Edwards reflected candidly on the breakdown of her friendship with Nelson and admitted that while there was once a point she considered rebuilding their relationship, recent events have changed her perspective.
Little Mix's Rise and Nelson's Departure
Little Mix—comprising Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall—became the first girl group to win The X Factor UK in 2011 before going on to achieve global success with multiple chart-topping singles and international tours. Jesy Nelson left the group in December 2020, citing the impact of long-term pressure on her mental health. While Edwards said she understands those reasons, she also suggested there were unresolved issues within the group dynamic that continued to affect them behind the scenes.
Edwards on Accountability and Support
During the podcast interview, Edwards said what frustrates her most is a lack of accountability in difficult situations, explaining that she feels people can go through “difficult moments” but still need to recognise their impact on others. She added that while she is not blaming everything on Nelson, she felt there were times when group tensions became overwhelming. Reflecting on the final months before Nelson’s departure, Edwards admitted she sometimes wonders if she “could have done more”, but said that at the time she believed she was doing everything she could to support her.
Impact of Nelson's Documentary
She also addressed Jesy Nelson’s later documentary about her time in Little Mix and her exit from the group, saying that revisiting those events publicly made her feel as though efforts to support her former bandmate were not fully acknowledged. When asked whether a friendship could ever be rebuilt, Edwards was clear that her feelings have changed over time. She said that although part of her once wanted to reconnect, the release of Nelson’s documentary made her “withdraw” from that idea again.
Reunion Now Unlikely
Edwards added that while she will always care about her former bandmate, she does not feel able to have that “energy” in her life anymore, suggesting that a reunion between the former members now appears increasingly unlikely despite ongoing fan hopes.
