WASHINGTON - Sofia Vergara says she still misses her Modern Family co-stars, especially Ed O'Neill. The actress opened up on the topic in a new People interview, where she recalled spending most of her time on the show working with O'Neill, who played her husband, Jay Pritchett. Vergara said O'Neill was a great friend and mentor during her time on the hit sitcom.
Vergara Credits O'Neill for Guidance
She explained that Modern Family was one of her first major acting jobs and that O'Neill helped guide her throughout the show's 11-season run. “I miss him so much,” she said. “I couldn’t have done it without him.” Vergara added that it has been six years since the show ended and that she misses the entire cast. Although they still see each other occasionally, she wishes they met more often.
Active Group Chat Keeps Cast Connected
The actress also revealed that the cast remains in touch through a group chat. Vergara revealed that the chat is still very active. She joked that O'Neill sometimes replies to messages several days later, leaving everyone confused about what he is responding to. “It’s pretty cool,” she told the magazine.
2023 Reunion Felt Like Old Times
In 2023, Vergara reunited with many of her former castmates, including Ed O'Neill, Julie Bowen, Sarah Hyland, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons. At the time, Vergara described the reunion as special because it was the first time the cast had all been together in nearly four years. She said that even though they had not seen each other for a long time, it felt like they had never left the set.
Modern Family aired for 11 seasons between 2009 and 2020.
