Sydney Sweeney has addressed ongoing speculation surrounding alleged behind-the-scenes tension within the cast of Euphoria, responding to rumors of a feud involving co-star Zendaya. In an interview published on June 9 with Vanity Fair, Sweeney described the speculation surrounding the cast as “crazy,” marking her first public comments on the subject since discussions about the show’s final season intensified online.
Background of the Rumors
Rumors of tension between Sweeney and Zendaya circulated ahead of Season 3, with speculation fueled by several public-facing moments. Zendaya reportedly left an L.A. premiere after a brief appearance, while Sweeney shared a social media post celebrating the series that did not include images of Zendaya. Further attention emerged from narrative choices in the final season, in which Zendaya’s character Rue attends a wedding involving Sweeney’s character Cassie but exits shortly afterward, with the two characters not sharing scenes together.
Sweeney's Response
Addressing the claims, Sweeney said: “It's honestly crazy to watch how much social media and the press spin things,” while emphasizing that the cast share a long-standing working relationship developed over multiple seasons. She also rejected suggestions that scheduling conflicts or outside projects caused delays in production. “I was in first position to HBO. So the moment they say, 'Hey, this is the first day of filming,' I'm legally not allowed to do anything else,” she explained, adding that all principal cast members were under the same contractual arrangements.
Behind-the-Scenes Dynamics
Sweeney further noted that despite limited shared screen time in later episodes, the cast maintained close working relationships during filming. “Every single time we were in the trailer, we were like, 'Wait, what are you doing today?'” she said, explaining that actors often received only their own scripts and pieced together the wider narrative during production. The interview sheds light on the collaborative environment on set, countering the narrative of discord that has circulated in media and fan circles.
