According to production listings in British Columbia, the series is operating under the working title Calm Current and began filming on March 2. Production is expected to continue until November 27, although filming has been paused from June 1 until June 28.
The reason for the break has not been officially confirmed, though reports suggest upcoming World Cup matches may be a contributing factor. The temporary pause comes as the series prepares to shift its focus towards Abby, portrayed by Kaitlyn Dever. Following the events of season two, the next chapter is expected to explore Abby's perspective, including her journey through Seattle and the aftermath of her father's death.
If the adaptation remains faithful to the source material, season three will also expand on the conflict between the Washington Liberation Front and the Seraphites, two rival factions at the center of the story. Recent set photographs have reportedly shown Abby traveling through Seattle alongside Lev, played by Kyriana Kratter. Lev is a teenage member of the Seraphites, while Michelle Mao is set to portray his sister, Yara. Both characters play significant roles in the narrative and are expected to feature prominently in the upcoming season.
Originally launched as a video game franchise by Naughty Dog in 2013, The Last of Us has expanded into one of HBO's most successful television adaptations.
