Pakistani pop singer Hassan Jahangir has opened up about the peak of his popularity in India, recalling his friendships with Bollywood stars and addressing long-standing reports that veteran actress Rekha once sent him a love letter. He also revealed that he regrets rejecting several offers to star as a lead actor in Indian films.
Rekha Love Letter Rumors Addressed
Jahangir, who skyrocketed to fame in the 1980s with hits like Hawa Hawa, appeared on a podcast where the host referenced persistent rumors that Rekha had written him a love letter when the song became a massive hit in India. In response, Jahangir neither confirmed nor denied the claim directly. Instead, he said, “Love can happen at any age. Some things are better kept private.” He added that he was warmly received in India and never encountered any difficulties during his visits.
Friendships with Bollywood Stars
The singer said he remains on good terms with several Bollywood celebrities, including Madhuri Dixit, Govinda, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Mithun Chakraborty. According to Jahangir, they still exchange warm messages from time to time, maintaining bonds formed during his years of touring and performing in India.
Regret Over Rejected Film Offers
Speaking about his biggest career regret, Jahangir disclosed that he was offered five or six Indian films as a hero and later turned down seven lead roles alongside some of Bollywood's most prominent actresses. “I was offered films with stars like Neelam and Madhuri, but I declined the projects and returned to Pakistan. Looking back, I feel any one of those films could have become a hit,” he said.
Career Highlights
Hassan Jahangir began his music career in 1986 and quickly became one of Pakistan's most recognizable pop stars. His repertoire includes chart-topping songs such as Hawa Hawa, Hato Bacho, and Pyar Pakistan. Despite his success across the border, he chose not to pursue a full-time acting career in Bollywood, a decision he now views with regret.
