KARACHI: Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has stated that the eradication of polio remains the government's top priority, emphasizing that all relevant departments are working with a strong national commitment to eliminate the crippling virus. He expressed these views during a meeting in his office with Dr. Nahad Sadr Azodi, a representative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, who was briefed on ongoing anti-polio efforts in the metropolis.
Progress on High-Risk Union Councils
The commissioner informed the Gates Foundation representative that out of 12 high-risk union councils in Karachi, environmental samples from 10 had tested negative for the poliovirus. He called this an important development for future planning and expressed hope that the circulating poliovirus would soon be eliminated from the city.
Government Commitment
Naqvi reiterated the government's dedication to eradicating polio, highlighting the collaborative efforts of various departments to achieve this goal. The meeting underscored the significance of international partnerships in combating the disease.
