Sindh Minister Clears Doctors in Washroom Birth Case

Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho on Wednesday absolved doctors of negligence in the recent incident where a woman gave birth in a washroom at JPMC. Speaking to the media during her visit to a special children's centre, the minister said that the pregnant woman had gotten up from her bed and gone to the washroom on her own. In such circumstances, allegations of negligence against doctors were not justified, she added.

Delivery Timing and Unusual Circumstances

She stated that the time of delivery had already arrived, and the baby was born on the floor of the labour room - an occurrence she described as not unusual in medical practice. Dr Pechuho said an inquiry into the incident had been conducted and no negligence on the part of doctors had been established.

Misconduct by Attendants

However, she added that the patient's male attendants had misbehaved with medical staff, and the presence of unrelated people inside the labour room was inappropriate. The minister emphasized that such behavior would not be tolerated and urged attendants to cooperate with hospital protocols.
