The University of Shangla organized a comprehensive seminar on drug awareness, control, and prevention, bringing together students, faculty members, researchers, and administrative staff to discuss the growing threat of narcotics and the collective responsibility required to combat substance abuse in society.
Vice Chancellor's Address
Addressing the seminar, Vice Chancellor of the University of Shangla, Professor Dr Sardar Khan, described drug addiction as a dangerous social menace that is gradually destroying the future of the younger generation. He stressed that educational institutions, parents, government agencies, and all segments of society must play their role in protecting youth from the devastating effects of narcotics.
“Drug abuse is not merely an individual problem but a social challenge that affects families, educational institutions, and communities as a whole,” he said. “Universities have a responsibility that extends beyond imparting academic knowledge. They must also focus on character building, moral development, and providing positive guidance to students.”
Professor Dr Sardar Khan emphasized that creating awareness among young people about the harmful consequences of drug use has become a pressing need of the time. He noted that a healthy, safe, and progressive society can only be achieved when young people are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to resist negative influences.
Expert Presentations
The seminar witnessed active participation from teachers, students, and university employees. During the event, experts delivered detailed presentations on various aspects of drug abuse, including its causes, consequences, and preventive measures. Assistant Professor Dr Faizur Rahman from the Institute of Zoological Sciences and Dr Ikramullah delivered keynote presentations highlighting different categories of narcotics and their harmful physical, psychological, and social effects.
The speakers explained how drug addiction adversely affects mental health, academic performance, family relationships, and overall social well-being. The experts stressed that combating drug-related problems requires coordinated efforts from individuals, families, educational institutions, healthcare professionals, and government departments. They urged society to work collectively to support those affected by addiction and facilitate their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
Awareness Walk
Following the seminar, an awareness walk was organized under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Sardar Khan. A large number of students, faculty members, and university staff participated in the walk to demonstrate their commitment to raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. Participants carried banners and placards bearing messages promoting a drug-free society and encouraging young people to stay away from narcotics.
The walk aimed to reinforce the seminar’s message and spread awareness among the wider community about the harmful effects of drugs. The participants reaffirmed their determination to contribute actively toward creating a society free from drug addiction and other social evils. They stressed that awareness and education are essential tools in preventing substance abuse and safeguarding future generations.
