The Gaza Health Ministry reported on Tuesday that eight more Palestinians were killed and 26 others wounded over the past 24 hours, raising the overall death toll from Israel's military campaign since October 2023 to 73,066. The ministry's daily statistical update confirmed that Gaza hospitals received eight bodies and 26 injured individuals during this period, without specifying the circumstances of the casualties as the Israeli army continued to violate the October 2025 ceasefire through shelling and gunfire across various parts of the territory.
Casualties and Ceasefire Violations
According to the ministry, the death toll from Israeli violations of the truce has risen to 1,053, while 3,406 others have been injured. The overall number of wounded since the start of the conflict now stands at 173,514. The ministry added that many victims remain trapped under rubble and on roads, with ambulance and civil defence crews still unable to reach them.
Widespread Destruction and Reconstruction Costs
Beyond the human toll, the campaign has caused widespread destruction, damaging approximately 90% of Gaza's civilian infrastructure. The United Nations estimates reconstruction costs at around $70 billion.
UN Inquiry on Targeting Children
Last week, an independent UN inquiry revealed that Israeli authorities and security forces deliberately targeted Palestinian children, resulting in genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. The report by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel examined violations against children since the start of the war. It found that around 30% of those killed in the Gaza war were children. A previous commission report in September had already concluded that Israel committed genocide in Gaza and that top Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, incited these acts—accusations Israel dismissed as scandalous.
