Ghotki Bar Moves SHC Against Toxic Wastewater Dumping

The Ghotki District Bar Association has approached the Sindh High Court (SHC) against the alleged disposal of untreated industrial wastewater by factories into open land, raising serious concerns over groundwater contamination and public health risks.

Petition Details

In a petition filed through President of the District Bar Association Ghotki, Shahnawaz Waseer, the petitioner stated that industrial units are releasing untreated toxic effluents directly onto land, which has reportedly polluted underground water sources in the area.

Alleged Impacts

The petition claims that the contamination has changed the natural colour of subsoil water to yellow and green, making it unsafe for human consumption. It further alleges that the use of this polluted water has led to serious health complications and even deaths in the region.

The bar association has requested the court to direct factories to ensure proper treatment of industrial wastewater before disposal, in order to protect the environment and public health. Industrial effluents often contain hazardous chemicals and heavy metals that can damage ecosystems and pose long-term risks to human life if not properly treated.
