Karachi traffic police have unveiled the alternative traffic routes for the main mourning processions scheduled on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH. These dates correspond to June 24, 25, and 26, 2026. The main procession will commence from Nishtar Park and conclude at the Husainia Iraniyan Imam Bargah, following its traditional route through the city.

Road Closures and Diversions

MA Jinnah Road will be closed to all traffic from Gurumandar to Tower due to security reasons. The closure will affect normal traffic flow in the city center. Alternative routes have been devised for different districts to ensure minimal disruption.

District Central Routes

Traffic coming from Nazimabad can proceed via Nishtar Road and Garden from Lasbela Chowk. Traffic from Liaquatabad must turn left at Lasbela Chowk from Teen Hatti and proceed towards the Central Jail via Martin Road. The route from Liaquatabad to Gurumandar will remain closed from 8:30 am to 9:30 am on the 9th of Muharram.

Travelers from Hasan Square to Peoples Chowrangi can use Kashmir Road, the Society Light Signal (Shahrah-e-Quaideen), the Jail Flyover, Teen Hatti, and Nishtar Road (Lasbela Chowk).

District East Routes

Those traveling from Shahrah-e-Faisal to Shahrah-e-Quaideen (Noorani Kebab) heading towards Numaish can turn right at the Society Light Signal onto Kashmir Road to reach their destinations. Travelers from the Central Jail Gate (Jamshed Road) towards Gurumandar and MA Jinnah Road can use Gurumandar, Bahadur Yar Jung Road, and Soldier Bazar. The route from Jamshed Road to Gurumandar and Bahadur Yar Jung Road will be closed from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm on the 9th of Muharram.

District South Routes

Traffic from Garden Zoo to MA Jinnah Road can turn right at Uncle Samirya towards Gul Plaza and then left towards the Coast Guard.

Heavy Traffic Diversions

All heavy commercial traffic from the Super Highway or Gulberg heading to MA Jinnah Road will be diverted from Liaquatabad No. 10 towards Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2. This route proceeds via the Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, and Sher Shah to Mari Pur. The same route applies for the return journey.

Heavy commercial traffic entering the city from the National Highway will be allowed via Shahrah-e-Faisal or Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sher Shah, Sulaiman Road, Hasan Square, Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2, Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, and Sher Shah to Mari Pur. The same route applies for the return journey.

All light and heavy traffic is prohibited from proceeding past Gurumandar Chowk towards the procession route. Such traffic will be diverted to Bahadur Yar Jung Road and Soldier Bazar. Entry of all vehicles on MA Jinnah Road is prohibited except those displaying a procession participation sticker on their windshield. Vehicles with stickers will be allowed entry via the Shahrah-e-Quaideen Society Light Signal.

Routes for Procession Participants

Mourners from Nazimabad should use Lasbela, Gurumandar, Numaish. Those from Liaquatabad should use Teen Hatti, Jahangir Road, Gurumandar to Numaish. From Society Light Signal to Numaish. From Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal, use University Road, Old Sabzi Mandi, Kashmir Road, Society Light Signal to Numaish. All vehicles distributing Sabeel, Niyaz, or Tabarruk will enter the procession at entry points located at Saddar Dawakhana and the Capri Light Signal. Parking is not allowed on the main procession route.
