KP Governor Warns Against Sectarian Divisions

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Saturday warned that those promoting sectarian divisions were undermining national unity and called on religious scholars and spiritual leaders to actively work toward fostering harmony. He made these remarks while addressing the “Martyrdom of Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA) and Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) Conference” as chief guest at the Governor House in Peshawar.

Lessons from Islamic History

The governor highlighted that the teachings of Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA) and the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) provide enduring lessons in justice, leadership, courage and resistance against oppression. He noted that the governance model of Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA) remains an example of fairness and accountability, while the message of Karbala continues to inspire people to uphold truth and stand against injustice.

Collective Responsibility for Pakistan's Stability

Mr. Kundi emphasized that Pakistan was founded in the name of Islam and safeguarding its stability and security is a collective responsibility. He added that the country is playing a constructive role in promoting regional peace and diplomacy. Referring to regional affairs, he said Pakistan has contributed to peace efforts in the Iran–United States dialogue and acknowledged the diplomatic engagement of President Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari at international forums.

Muharram's Message of Unity

The governor stated that Muharram conveys lessons of patience, sacrifice and brotherhood, adding that respect for the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Ahl-e-Bait (RA) and the companions (RA) forms the foundation of unity among Muslims. He praised the role of religious scholars in promoting inter-sect harmony and said the Governor House would continue to serve as a platform for peace, tolerance and national cohesion. Religious scholars and participants also expressed appreciation for efforts aimed at strengthening national unity and promoting global peace.
