Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday chaired a high-level committee meeting to review the existing guidelines for the establishment of universities and higher education institutions in Pakistan. The committee examined the draft 2026 HEC Regulatory Framework for the Establishment and Accreditation of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Pakistan.

Relevant stakeholders provided a comprehensive briefing to the committee regarding the proposed policy. The framework aims to streamline the process of setting up new universities and ensure quality standards across higher education institutions.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and other relevant ministries. The draft framework is expected to introduce stricter accreditation requirements and enhance oversight of both public and private sector institutions.
OIC Ministerial Conference on Women
In a separate session, Dar chaired the 6th meeting of the High-Level Committee for the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women, scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan from July 12 to 13, 2026. The conference will bring together ministers and delegates from OIC member states to discuss women's empowerment and development.
According to official sources, the committee reviewed preparations for the conference, including logistical arrangements, agenda items, and expected outcomes. Pakistan is committed to hosting a successful event that promotes gender equality and women's rights in the Muslim world.
